SAXONS EDGE BUCS 26-23

The Buccaneers RFC travelled to Cobourg to take on the Saxons on Saturday June 20th. The Bucs were determined to play a better match then the last time these clubs met, where Cobourg handed the Toronto club a 31 – 0 loss.

Cobourg would score first with a dubious penalty try.  They would build on this lead with 3 more tries, while the Bucs responded with a penalty kick and an unconverted try.  At the half, the Bucs were in a deep hole down 26 – 8.

The second half saw the Bucs come roaring back, scoring 15 answered points, the last being a try which put the Bucs within three points of the Saxons with 5 minutes left.  However, the Bucs would run out of time losing 26 – 23.

Man of the Match went to the scrum-half Adam MacMillan.  Adam played a tough match, doing well to dig for the ball and took punishing hits while making sure the ball was distributed.

PENALTIES: Cooper (1)

The Buccaneers 2nds played a tough match against the Cobourg 2nds immediately after the 1sts.  The Bucs were edged by Cobourg 24 – 17, with Bucs tries coming from Aaron Barber and Duane Farrell.  2nds captain Jeremy Fine had a big match, scrummaging well and making big hits in the loose, but it was Barber who would be awarded Man of the Match with a big game on offense.
