BUCCANEERS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON

With the last games of the regular season the Buccaneers took the field at Sunnybrook to face two different opponents.

The Buccs 2 took to the pitch facing off against Beach 4. While overall numbers for the Buccs were a little slim, the team found itself in the not often seen position of having more players than their opponent. The Buccs 2 took full advantage, starting strong and putting up a number of tries in the first 20 minutes. Flagging a little in the afternoon heat the Buccs 2 lost some momentum later in the half allowing Beach 4 to score and use that momentum to plow three tries of their own in the early second half. Rallying around each other the Buccs 2 fought back hard and were able to overcome their difficulties taking the game back in their favour. Thanks to strong individual runs and good team play via support the Buccs 2 emerged victorious at the final whistle with a score of 49 to 25.

Buccs 1 took the field against the top of the table Bay Street Pigs. Despite a few of the Bucc players having already seen some game time in the seconds game, the team came out hard from the start, with strong tackles and rucking. Unfortunately the Pigs proved too much for the Buccs, doing an excellent job in the rucks and making good use of the back line to get the ball wide. A hard fought Buccs style rugby game nonetheless, players held their heads up knowing they had played their all for 80 minutes. Final score Bay Street 37, Buccs 0.

While the playoff picture going forward is still a little unclear we are expecting to have at least one game this Saturday the 20th and probably another the 27th. All players are asked to make it out to training this week so we can prepare the best possible side for the upcoming playoffs.
