Practice and Rugby Gear

Our 2015 season is upon us and indoor practice has been great, with high numbers attending, and excellent sessions run by our coaches.

There are only THREE indoor sessions left – all at Monarch Park Dome:

Friday, April 10 from 9 – 10 pm,
Saturday April 11 from 4 – 6 pm, and
Sunday April 12 from 10 am – 12 pm.

I am excited to see so many new faces out at practice. If you’re new to the club, or new to the sport, don’t hesitate to ask a coach, or senior/experienced team mate, any questions at any time! Our club wants every single club member to have fun playing the sport of rugby, and you’ll have the best chance of doing that by fully understanding rugby drills to help develop your rugby skills & knowledge.

The Bucs will then be competing in the Burlington rugby tournament on Saturday April 18. The Burlington tournament is being held on astro-turf fields, so only molded/plastic soccer cleats are permitted. No rugby cleats (metal removable studs) are allowed. I encourage all club members to pick up a pair of soccer cleats to wear for our indoor practices this weekend so we can all get used to playing on similar turf for the tournament.

Also, those new to the sport of rugby should start to bring a mouthguard to all rugby practices. Other gear such as shoulder pads or scrum cap are at your discretion.

We are planning outdoor practices, so stay tuned for further announcements!

Registration

Online registration for 2015 is available now HERE along with instructions. If you haven’t registered and paid your dues yet, you can now do so online anytime!

If you have paid in person and filled out a registration form you do NOT have to sign up online – the club will do that for you and email you confirmation that you’ve been officially registered.

If you don’t have access to a credit card, or prefer to pay in person, you can still register in-person at any Bucs practice. Dues are $375 for the season. $250 for students and all 18 & 19 year olds. With your dues you receive a Pro-fit red/black reversible Bucs training jersey, Bucs club golf shirt, and rugby socks. This gear will be available soon.

Bucs Hockey…?

Lastly, the Buccaneers RFC hockey team has been fortunate to reach the championship final in their ASHL league, and will be playing this Friday, April 10, at 11:30pm to hopefully take home the cup. The game is being held at the Scarborough Canlan, 159 Dynamic Drive (401 east to Markham Rd, then north on Markham and then left on Dynamic Drive). Anyone is welcome to come watch the game at the rink after practice Friday, enjoy a beer or two, and cheer on, or more likely heckle, our club hockey team.
