BUCCS LOSE TO THE YEOMEN

It was a tough day for the Buccs on Saturday June 26th. Our annual Pink Ladies Charity Day was first put into jeopardy earlier in the week when we were informed our home pitch of Sunnybrook had already been scheduled for an Ultimate Frisbee tournament. This caused a last minute relocation to Eglinton Flats and with it new, earlier start times. With many players not able to make the earlier kickoff the Buccs very regrettably had to forfeit their 2nds Team match for the first time this season.

The 1st Team took the field at noon under pouring rain against the York Yeomen. The match was a gritty affair, with both sides playing hard and not backing down. Early play had the Buccs dictating the ball but the Yeoman soon found a gap in the defence and punched through a try to take an early 7 – 0 lead. They would chip away at the Buccs throughout the game adding two more tries for a final score of 19 – 0.

While the Buccs are still winless this season, there was much improvement in Saturday’s game over the previous loss to North Simcoe. The Buccs managed to implement some strategies worked on in practice and while the outcome was not what was hoped for, the Buccs were able to hold their heads high at the end of the game. Man of the Match honours went to prop Tim Morton who had a strong day taking on the ball and rucking hard. Special mention also goes out to Brian Crothers who played out of position in the backs, and the every stalwart Dean Spencer for their strong games.

The Buccs next take on the Toronto Dragons on July 10 at Sunnybrook after the Canada Day holiday weekend.
