BUCCS U16 IN CLOSE LOSS TO MISSISSAUGA
With an early morning start on Saturday the Buccs U16 headed out to Mississauga for the first time to take on the Blues under beautiful sunny skies.
Both teams battled back and forth with little result for the first 20 minutes, displaying hard runs and rucking. A number of penalties on both sides eventually resulted in the Blues getting on the scoreboard first with a penalty kick mid way through the first half. The Buccs U16 roared back soon after however, with a dominate run by captain Victor resulting in a try. More penalties soon caught up with the Buccs however and the Blues capitalized again leaving the Buccs U16 with a very tentative 1 point lead.
Thanks in part to very strong running by Baleel in the forwards and try scorer Faisal in the backs the Buccs U16 widened their lead in the second half touching down two more tries. Unfortunately due to continued poor discipline the Buccs U16 incurred more penalties allowing the Blues to take advantage, running in two tries of their own to take the lead by one point. Time was not on the Buccs U16 side, and eventually the final whistle blew with the score Mississagua 18, Toronto 17.
A hard fought game on both sides, with a tremendous effort from all Buccs U16 players leaves a lot of positives to take away and perhaps a different outcome had there been more time. Poor judgement and response on penalties however needs to be improved.
Training will continue Tuesday at Sunnybrook, with Thursday to be determined.
Go Buccs!
