BUCS START SEASON 2 – 0

The Buccaneers RFC played host to Bay Street Pigs RFC Sunday May 24th in their first home field match.  Throughout the first half, Bay St.'s kept the Bucs in their half, but the the Buccaneers defense kept the Pigs out of their end-zone and the half ended scoreless for either side.  The second half was a reversal of fortunes as the Bucs pack started to assert themselves in the scrum.  In particular, Bucs prop Geoff Bishop made it a difficult day in the office for his opposite number.  With stable set piece play, the boys in blue ran in three unanswered tries, to end the game 19 – 0 winners over Bay St.

Tries: Chris Duggan, Simon Cooper and Paul Coles.  Converts: Cooper (2) The second rugby match of the day saw the Buccaneers 2nd XV hosting a touring North Penn RFC.  The exhibition match was a great game for Bucs members new to the club to strut their stuff, and for those newer to the game itself.  Thanks goes out to members of the Bay Street RFC who volunteered a handful of players to fill out the Bucs squad.  Although it was a lop sided win for the tourists, Bucs coach Peter Towill was pleased to be able to evaluate new Bucs players during a full game.  Man of the match went to Buccaneers Kamal LaBreche, who at lock, played hard for a full 80 minutes in what was his first full rugby game.

The Buccaneers next see action on June 6th when they host the Coburg Saxons RFC at Sunnybrook.  This match will also be theBuccaneers RFC Alumni Day, where Bucs Hall of Fame inductee(s) will be honoured in after match festivities at the Fox and Fiddle.
