CAPTAIN’S XV VANQUISHED ON PRESIDENT’S DAY
Saturday October 31 the Buccaneers RFC held their annual President’s Day to coincide with the Rugby World Cup final. After seeing the All Blacks raise the Webb Ellis cup, the Bucs club took to a nearby rugby pitch to play for the President’s Trophy. The inter-squad game is a long annual tradition in the club whereby the President’s XV takes on the Captain’s XV for the right to raise the club trophy. Ruggers playing were donning their traditional silly hats (and some great costumes) for the match. Club captain, Gideon Haasbroek led the way for the Captain’s XV, clearly inspired by his home country’s dominating performance in the RWC bronze medal game where the Springboks beat Argentina.
Although the Captain’s XV led at the half, the President’s XV was surely inspired themselves by the brave Japanese Cherry Blossoms RWC team, and put on a try scoring clinic running away with the game in the final 40 minutes winning 50-35. Bucs rookie and U18 graduate Jamar Stanton took man of the match honours with his hat trick of tries.
