It’s that time of year when the Bucs have the ultimate club day – PRESIDENT’S DAY.  Celebrating all that was in 2017 season, and looking forward to 2018, President’s Day is true Buccaneers ‘rugby day’ with international rugby, our President’s Cup match, and, more pints than any human should consume in a day, but we do anyways!

The day’s festivities starts on Saturday November 11th with breakfast at the pub & live international fixtures on TV.  The LEASIDE PUB, home of the Bucs, is located at 190 Laird Drive.

International Fixtures are:

10 am England vs Argentina

12:30 pm Ireland vs. South Africa

2:30 pm Wales vs. Australia.

Following the Ireland vs South Africa match Buccaneers players and guests will head over to a local rugby pitch (to be announced day of) for an inter-squad game of President’s XV vs. Captain’s XV.  Club Prez Brian Crothers and Club Captain Chris Burt will be selecting two teams to play for the President’s Cup.  The game will kick-off at 3 pm and will be two 30 min halves.  Bring your red/black training jersey, or any spare jersey you can play in.  President’s Day Match Rules are:

• Must wear a silly hat to play.  You cannot score a try without wearing your silly hat!  Costume’s are welcome & encouraged – who says they’re just for halloween?
• No kicking!  Kicking the ball will result in a penalty. 
• Conversions after tries are to be taken by the try scorer by drop goal 
• Port breaks held at discretion of the President!

The man of the match will be awarded the ‘Breen Carson Memorial ‘Hero of the Game’, fittingly on Rememberance Day, as the late Breen Carson, Buccaneer, was a highly decorated Canadian Forces hero, serving in Afghanistan.

Post match, the Buccaneers will be returning to the Leaside Pub to catch the Leafs game, and, for some awards of distinction, to recognize some of the dubious moments of our Bucs players this past season.

Last, but not least, Buccaneer’s Club Captain, Chris Burt, and partner Diana, are expecting their baby Nov 16!   Chris has put a lot of blood, sweat & tears into the club since joining the Bucs, and we’d love to see our Bucs family show their support by each member bringing a case/pack of baby diapers to President’s Day for Burt’s first born!   A ‘traditional Diaper-Party’ at the pub!
