BUCS CLOSE OUT SEASON IN STYLE

Saturday, August 22 the Buccaneers RFC played their final regular season match in a tilt against Bay Street RFC.  Bay Street came ready to play and started the match by dominating ball possession, while the Bucs needlessly gave away too many penalties.  The Piggies would score two quick tries to take a 12 – 0 lead after the first 10 minutes.  The Bucs squad finally woke up and replied with three tries of their own to go into half time with a 17 – 12 lead.

The second half was all Bucs, scoring five tries while shutting out the Piggies for a final score of 48 – 12.

In the big Buccaneers win, there were plenty of fine performances to consider for man-of-the-match.  Honourable mentions include captain/fly-half James Phillips, hooker Dean Spencer, fullback Aaron Barber and prop Geoff Bishop.  However, on this day it was the Bucs pack leader/flanker, Paul 'Colesy' Collins who deserves man-of-the-match.  Paul had great hands in the line-out, was a monster in defence, and had an unsurpassed work rate at the ruck – but it was Paul's leadership skills which were a big asset to the club by keeping the Bucs forwards focused despite some early game mistakes.

Try-Scorers: Aaron Barber (2), Brian Crothers (2), Dan Pistor, Tyson Staples, Duane Farrell, and Wes Gee.

Converts: Barber (4)

The other TRU 'B' division match-up saw Cobourg take care of business at home handing the Orillia Dingoes a 40 – 5 loss.  Congrats to the Saxons for finishing 1st place in the standings.

Bucs fixtures rep Tim Morton is currently trying to arrange a final end-of-season exhibition match on Saturday August 29 for both 1st and 2nd teams.  Stay tuned for details.
