BUCS IN TOUGH AGAINST LEAGUE LEADERS

The Buccaneers RFC hosted the Orillia Dingoes RFC on Saturday August 8th.  The Toronto ruggers would score first with a penalty kick from Simon Cooper, but it was all Orillia afterwards, their backs having a particularly productive day touching down for 5 of their 6 tries.  Despite the lopsided score, the Bucs played a full 80 minutes and were rewarded with a fine try in a well executed back play by winger Tyson Staples.  At full time Orillia were deserved winners 42 – 8.  This was the final meeting between the Bucs and Dingoes, with the Dingoes taking 3 of 4 games between the two clubs this season.

The Bucs travelled to Cobourg to take on the Saxons August 15th in their final match-up between the two sides.  Cobourg and Toronto are the two clubs in the TRU 'B' division who were both in the league from last year and have a long history of tight scoring rugby matches.  In sweltering heat, the Saxons won the closely contested affair 17 – 7.  Buccaneers fullback Aaron Barber continued his MVP-calibre ways scoring the Bucs sole try and converting it.  Bucs' man of the match went to rookie lock Davin Brown.  Davin was a menace in the line-outs and got around the pitch like an extra loose forward.

With the Saxons win, the table is set for a show-down between Cobourg and Orillia next Saturday for the league title.  Both clubs stand tied with 43 points each.  The Buccaneers RFC congratulates both Cobourg and Orillia on their hard work this season and championship-quality play.

The Buccaneers, in their final match of the TRU 'B' division will play Bay Street RFC at Sunnybrook Park, Saturday August 22nd at 1 pm.
