BUCS THUMP MUDDY YORK

The Buccaneers 2nd XV hosted the Muddy York RFC at Fletcher's Field on Saturday July 18.  Muddy York performed well in set piece play and were very capable first phase tacklers, but the Bucs would feast in loose play, gaining plenty of yards from effective passing and hard running.  To start the second half, three Buccaneers took to the pitch for Muddy York who were short on subs.  Although the Bucs had ran in plenty of tries, Muddy York put in a full 80 minute effort and were rewarded with their 1st try of the season.  York's try was scored by one of the mercenary Buccaneers' Chris 'Killer' Duggan, who ran a good 50 metres to score on his own club.  At the final whistle, the Bucs won 102 – 5.

Man of the Match: With a triple digit score, there were plenty of try-scorers, so it was those Bucs who hustled without the ball who stood out from the squad.  Adam MacMillan at no. 9, lock Kevin Madrick, hooker Jay McEvans, prop Sean 'P-pants' Webb, and winger Chris 'McLovin' Marshall all had impressive games.  But it was Bucs rookie prop Andrew Gourley who earned man of the match honours.  Gourley played very well in the scrum and line out, and never took his foot off the gas making heads-up tackles around the pitch like a loose forward.  Andrew nearly had to come off at one point after suffering a nasty facial cut from a vicious York hand-off, but was able to shake it off and finish out the match without losing a step.
